Cybersonica 05 - Highlights

  • 11 performances across three venues, over three nights including a feast of artists and musicians. At the Dana Centre, the Digital Research Unit [DRU] and Soundtoys.net showcased such talents as TOM BETTS, STANZA, TOXI & PELADO and ADDICTIVE TV and CINEFEEL presented their Audiovisual Lounge. At the ICA, XFM DJs NICK LUSCOMBE and EDDY TEMPLE-MORRIS brought their Flo Motion and Remix shows out of the studio to DJ alongside Finland's HUSKY RESCUE (Catskills) and BREAK REFORM with a TYPE RECORDS showcase in the ICA Bar. At the Old Truman Brewery, as part of Encompass, WAVESWARMS artists presented a wireless concert with the audience listening in via FM radio.
  • 8 selected sonic art works and interactive audiovisual experiments hosted by SOUNDTOYS.NET - now featured for the third year running at the Cybersonica festival. These installations were experimental, interactive and generative sound works - moving beyond the screen and responding to user interactions, kinetics, elapsed time and the surrounding environment. Exhibiting Artists included I AM THE MIGHTY JUNGULATOR, GOLAN LEVIN, STANZA, SOMETH;NG, TROIKA, ANTHONY ELLIOTT, AMJAD CHAUDRY & VIJKESH BHATT, DAVE LAWRENCE & JOANNA HOFFMAN.
  • 2 workshops hosted by Encompass at the Old Truman Brewery with I AM THE MIGHTY JUNGULATOR (Diesel U-Music Award winner for Best Leftfield Electronic Act 2004) explaining and illustrating their innovative IATMJ software and DJ TENDRAW & THE GYPSIES DOG navigateing us through circuit bending techniques and methods of instrument adaptation - demonstrating new analog hardware and instrumentation they'd devised over the previous six months.
  • A two-day symposium and keynotes addresses at the Dana Centre explored issues and themes in digital media, audiovisual synthesis, generative art and interactivity. GOLAN LEVIN (USA) presented a keynote address on "Audiovision and Computation: Landmarks, Paradigms, Futures". Alongside the exhibition, Soundtoys.net also presented a panel of artists discussing their emergent technology projects and audiovisual arts including TERRY BRAUN, CHRIS O'SHEA, ADAM HOYLE, TOXI and STANZA. The Digital Research Unit from Huddersfield also presented how they endeavour to initiate, support and disseminate creative research activities in digital, interactive, and network media, linking artists, researchers, academics and creative networks together with presentations including THOR MAGNUSSON, JOE GILMORE, TOM BETTS, DEREK HALES and TOM HOLLEY. And WAVESWARMS, a collective of sonic artists associated with the MA Sonic Art at Middelsex University presented a series of papers and projects.
